Designed With Your Child’s Safety In Mind
We are proud to be able to say that THE ZOO® has been sold since 2004 without a single reported safety incident.
The original stuffed animal storage ZOO® by Hulton House is designed to be a durable, extremely functional, and safely engineered addition to your child’s indoor play area or bedroom!
The Stuffed Animal ZOO stores 90 or more in under 2 sq/ft. Safe flexible bars allow toys to be popped in or out offering a fun solution for a tidy room. THE ZOO® is made using quality materials such as marine grade 13-ply Birch for the wood frame, commercial grade furniture fasteners for the frame assembly, and custom extruded HDPE tubing to cover the elastic bungee cords. HDPE or High Density Polyethylene, is the same FDA approved material used in milk jugs.
All exposed wood edges are rounded and sanded smooth to help prevent contact injuries. We use no nails, staples, or hazardous paints, stains, or adhesives in the construction of the ZOO. Material safety information (MSDS) on the materials used in the ZOO is available on request.
Never buy storage units with exposed bungee cords for use around children! Little fingers can sometimes undo knots allowing cords under tension to whip back and cause eye damage. Kids may also choke themselves with a loose cord. As all parents know, even if it’s only remotely possible, some kid will do it! Shown below is an example of a ‘best case’ ZOO installation.
This looks unremarkable at a glance but please consider the following points… This ZOO is mounted to the wall with the included wall anchors, it is not crowding a window or door, is not placed in front of a heat register, cold air return vent, electrical outlet or light switch, and is not placed near a staircase.
What makes these points so important?
Kids will climb on anything! Properly anchored to the wall the ZOO is much less likely to tip over thereby avoiding injury to kids and adjacent furnishings.
In the event of a fire, choking incident, sickness, sudden allergic reaction, a door accidentally locked or blocked from the inside, even something as simple as a bad dream at night, your child needs help immediately! Keeping windows and doorways free from even partial obstruction means you or an emergency first responder will have the quickest possible access to your child.
Home heating and cooling systems require the free flow of air into and out of all the rooms of your house to ensure comfort and proper function of the heating and cooling systems. Don’t compromise the performance of these systems by obstructing the free air flow of a heat vent or cold air return.
An electric outlet or light switch hidden behind a pile of stuffed animals poses both fire and electric shock hazards. We advise against installing your ZOO closer than 18″ away from electric outlets or light switches.
Toys stored near a staircase can invite playing on stairs and be a distraction to little kids trying to navigate their way up or down stairs when they should be paying attention to holding the handrails.
It’s all just common sense but our uncommon attention to detail makes a world of difference!
